The Toyota Prius has been raising the bar for the automotive industry ever since it was first revealed in 1997. Its hybrid design has now become a staple for many automakers. Now, Toyota has done it again with the Toyota Prius Prime.
The new Toyota Prius Prime is the most efficient edition of the Toyota Prius yet! It gets the miles per gallon equivalent of 120 MPGe. In fact, the new Toyota Prius Prime has a range of 600 miles, once fully charged and full of gasoline.
The Prius Prime design is created to get closer to the electric vehicle end of the hybrid spectrum. It focuses more on electric range and less on gasoline-powered miles. Toyota even designed the Prime’s EV-only range based on the average driver’s work commute time.
The price is not announced for the Prius Prime yet. However, I bet it’s safe to assume that – between the money you’ll save on gasoline and the tax credits you’ll receive – the Prius Prime will be an affordable option for most drivers.

In 1997, Toyota transformed the automotive market with the Toyota Prius. When it first hit the scene, it was clear that this hybrid was no novelty car. It was–and still is–a well-balanced compact sedan featuring an extremely robust hybrid powertrain. In fact, since 2005, 95% of all Prius models sold are still on the road.
Did Toyota’s gamble on hybrid technology payoff? The truth is in the numbers. And the numbers are big.
Toyota just announced that it had produced its 9 millionth hybrid vehicle. But that’s not the whole story. Back in July, the number of Toyota hybrid vehicles had reached 8 million, meaning that Toyota made a million hybrid vehicles in only nine months! It’s an incredible feat that stands as stark testimony to the design and engineering prowess and business acumen of the automaker.
And now Toyota is set to revolutionize the green car market yet again with the Toyota Mirai. Instead of a hybrid powertrain, the Mirai features an innovative hydrogen fuel cell powertrain that delivers 302 miles in range, all the while emitting zero emissions.
Earth Day just recently passed on April 22nd, and Toyota’s North American branch just broke a Guinness World Record after organizing a Toyota Prius parade in California in honor of the occasion. The world record in question was for the world’s largest hybrid parade, and with 332 Priuses gathered on the Alameda Air Field in Northern California, it was an easy win.
The choice of location was an obvious one, according to Toyota. California accounts for 40% of United States sales of the brand’s popular Prius hybrid, especially in the Bay Area of Northern California, which Toyota describes as housing “hundreds of thousands” of Prius drivers. Organizing the event was a way for Toyota’s North American branch to pay homage to the strides their company has made in alternative-fuel vehicles, particularly with the Prius, while also celebrating the tradition of Earth Day.
The parade was attended by Guinness World Record representatives, who showed up to witness the occasion in person and confirmed the record-breaking numbers first hand. Toyota attributes the success of the event to the fact that its Toyota and Lexus brands have twice as many hybrids on the road than any other auto manufacturer. The Toyota Prius parade will go down in history as one of the largest hybrid gatherings ever and one of the first of its type.
Toyota revealed the next-generation Prius not long ago and the new design is striking and bold. The new Prius, hitting dealer lots next year, follows the way of the Camry and Corolla, designed to be much bolder and more recognizable. The gas-electric hybrid became a bestseller with its previous design and the new model looks to capitalize on that success.
With competitors of every size and price, the hybrid market is much more competitive than it once was. To unveil the car, Toyota introduced it by hoisting the vehicle above a crowd outside a Las Vegas hotel.
In all, the new Prius is longer and sleeker than the current model. New headlamps and a prominent rear spoiler are just a few of the most notable cosmetic changes.
Mechanically, the new Prius has a revamped suspension and some great new safety features. It’s also expected to see fuel economy improve by 10% over the previous model, which earned 51 mpg in the city.
More than 3.5 million Priuses have been sold since it first went on sale in Japan in 1997. Toyota’s capitalized on the popularity of the hybrid over the past few years by adding new models of all sizes and prices. Now with a new design, the Prius looks sharper and should be ready to take on the market once again.
The legendary Toyota Prius will go down in history as the hybrid vehicle that inspired an entire class of cars: the midsize hybrid EV. Enormously popular since its debut, Toyota has improved upon the Prius with each successive generation.
The latest 2015 Toyota Prius gets 51 mpg in the city and 48 mpg on the highway, staggering numbers that will not only save you money, but will also lower your carbon footprint – thanks to Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive, which combines a gasoline engine and an electric motor.
Of course, the 2015 Prius is also stuffed with the latest tech – such as the Smart Key System, which allows you to start your vehicle with the push of a button from a distance, and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, which allows your car to slow down automatically if you approach another car to closely while using cruise control.
The Prius is affordable for almost everyone, and it’s got plenty of innovative features to keep you and your family safe. Come visit us at Dick Dyer Toyota to try one out for yourself.
The new Toyota TNGA platform will benefit the 2016 Prius in a big way. The platform, TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture platform), is being completely overhauled and will offer numerous enhancements not only to the upcoming Prius, but other models down the line.
In a recent press release, President Akio Toyoda said, “I want 2015 to be a year in which we take steady and bold steps toward sustainable growth. We can do this by launching new models that incorporate TNGA, and making good use of this intentional pause to strengthen our competitiveness.”
We’re excited to see the all-new 2016 Prius and other models that will bear Toyota’s new, more efficient platform! If you want more information on the upcoming Toyota lineup, visit us at Dick Dyer Toyota today!
Everyone knows that the Toyota Prius single-handedly created the hybrid vehicle market. Or as Consumer Reports puts it, the Prius “transformed an early-adopter technology into a mainstream player.”
As far as Consumer Reports is concerned, the Prius is a bit of a teacher’s pet. But you can’t hold it against the compact EV for possessing “affordability, stellar fuel economy, smart packaging, and blue-chip reliability.”
This year, CR awarded the Toyota Prius with its Top Pick honors for the Green Car category. It should be noted that this is only the twelfth year in a row that the Prius has received such an honor.
But ultimately, being a green car, the name of the game is economy. People interested in the Toyota Prius are interested in an economical package (not to mention, an environmentally-conscious one). That’s why the Prius is the Consumer Reports Green Car Top Pick. It’s “the perfect economical transportation solution.”
When you are the best of the best, you want to make sure that the product that you put out lives up to your reputation. This is why Toyota, the global leader of hybrid vehicles, has decided to go back to the drawing board for the new Toyota Prius design.
During a meeting earlier this year to confirm the next-generation Prius’ exterior look, the Japanese carmaker executive’s were less than happy with the state of the Prius’ newest design. Because of this, they asked the engineers to get back to work and make the Prius better than ever—and it looks like they have done just that.
“The design redo was instructed by myself, and the president said the same thing,” said Mitsuhisa Kato, executive vice president for Toyota. “We substantially refined the design, and we have finally reached a level where we can offer it next year.”
After reworking the design, Toyota believes that they have finally found the perfect exterior look that completely shakes off the Prius’ previously boxy styling. While there are no new details on the green car’s styling, the rumor mill believes that it will look relatively similar to Toyota’s C-HR Concept.

If you have been seeing many more hybrids out on the road lately, it wasn’t just your mind playing tricks on you. Toyota has officially announced that, since the Toyota Prius release in Japan 1997, sales for this hybrid model have exceeded 7 million.
What’s more, Toyota green car sales outrank other automakers in the industry. According to Toyota Product Chief Karl Schlicht stated that “Toyota’s hybrid drivetrain technology is far from reaching its peak…Toyota is moving into a new wave of hybrid technology that’s more efficient [than] ever, sportier than ever and more appealing to mainstream buyers.”
This is great to hear that although Toyota will be releasing the first mass-produced hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle soon, their focus remains strong with the Prius and hybrid technology. We are sure that the trend towards this technology will continue to grow and increase Toyota sales.
