Toyota Wins ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year for 10th Consecutive Time

Toyota has won its 10th consecutive ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award for its continued commitment to sustainable energy. Over the last 11 years at Toyota’s 14 plants, the automaker has saved more than $500 million through energy improvements and reduced energy use by 22 percent—enough to power the whole Columbia area around us here at Dick Dyer Toyota and then some!

Among these 14 plants, it was the Toyota Alabama plant in Huntsville that stood out the most this year. It received five awards last week, including the EPA ENERGY STAR Challenge for Industry Award, the City of Huntsville Air Pollution Control Achievement Award, and three Toyota North America Environmental Awards.

In the last year, Toyota Alabama reduced energy use by 14 percent (about 4.3 gigawatt hours per year—enough to power 400 homes for a year) and reduced water use by an equivalent of 75 million water bottles. It uses water from a rainwater harvest pond using pumps powered by solar panels. Talk about efficiency!
